Art of Persuasion Held at Harvard Law School
Columbia, SC – From March 10-14, 2012, Carl L. Solomon served as a faculty member at the American Association of Justice’s Ultimate Trial Advocacy College on the Art of Persuasion at Harvard School. As a part of the intensive five-day curriculum, participants focused on topics such as the ultimate strategies for jury selection, voir dire, trial psychology and courtroom communications.
Solomon provided instruction on “Telling the Story through Direct Examination” and was also part of a panel on “Ethical Consideration in the Negotiation Waltz”. His topics included getting the jury to listen, sequencing to keep the story moving, simplifying the complex and anticipating cross examination. This was the twenty-second year that the Ultimate provided training in trial strategies and advanced communication to trial lawyers. On the importance of this training, Solomon expressed, “When preparing cases against major corporations on behalf of injured persons or the family of persons who were killed as a result of the company’s bad actions, attorneys need to be skilled in courtroom communication. That is what we teach at the Ultimate.”
Solomon is known for his involvement in several high profile cases in Carolina, including jointly representing several of the families of the “Charleston 9” fallen firefighters, Olvera v. Norfolk Southern (Graniteville Train Derailment) and video poker litigation. He was the 2010 – 2011 President of the SC Bar, where he worked to educate the public and legislature about the dangers of an under-funded Judiciary.
Solomon is a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum® and has received the coveted AV Peer Review Rating™ from Martindale-Hubble®.
