SC Bar Names Solomon as President Elect

Columbia attorney Carl L. Solomon has been named President-elect of the South Carolina Bar Association Board of Governors for the 2010-2011 term. Solomon will officially take the reins as President in May 2010, succeeding Fred Suggs, Jr. in the role.

“As President, my focus will be to continue to improve the services available to the people of South Carolina by the outreach efforts of the South Carolina Bar,” says Carl L. Solomon. He adds, “In these tough times all South Carolinians need to volunteer their talents to improve our situation; the Bar needs to and will make sure that there are opportunities for attorneys to volunteer in ways that are meaningful to our communities.”

“Carl Solomon approaches every task or challenge he undertakes with a combination of diligence, passion and sound judgment,” says law firm partner Richard M. Gergel. “The South Carolina Bar could do no better than Carl Solomon as its President.” Gergel was recently nominated by President Obama to the District Court Bench for the District of South Carolina.

The South Carolina Bar has over 12,500 members who are licensed to practice law in the state of South Carolina. Membership includes practicing and retired attorneys and judicial members. In addition to offering members legal education, the South Carolina Bar provides education and services to the public. Recent events have included a state-wide Ask-a-Lawyer phone bank and online chat where member attorneys volunteered time on the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday to answer legal questions for the public, and a mock-congressional hearing for high school students.
